Parenting in the Digital Age ... Resources

Without mentors or guides about how to parent in the digital age, people need resources! Below are some recent articles and documentaries I have been recommending to parents as they become more mindful and soulful about parenting today.

Two great pieces from Frontline on PBS:

  • What does it mean to be part of the first generation coming of age in the Internet era?  Stream Growing Up Online here
  • Frontline producer Rachel Dretzin (Growing up Online) teams up with one of the leading thinkers of the digital age, Douglas Rushkoff (The Persuaders, Merchants of Cool), to continue to explore life on the virtual frontier. Stream Digital Nation here

From the September '14 issue of The Atlantic, Hanna Rosen's portrait of teen sexting is here

Along the same lines, Nick Bilton has a piece in the 7 January 2015 edition of The New York Times in which he explores what it means to parenting in the age of pornography. You can read that here and I suggest reading some of the comments as well.

Finally, a very informative look at how a 19-year-old college student experiences social media and the various platforms he and his peers use to communicate. You can link to the article here and I heartily recommend exploring other pieces on Medium. Medium is a new publishing platform with a variety of content from all kinds of contributors. If you like to read and learn cool stuff, Medium has to be on your radar.

As always, feel free to follow me on Twitter (the link is at the top of the page) and you can always reach me via email through my contact page.
